About the Organization

Mission Statement

To create and promote an environment in the City of St. Louis that attracts and retains young people.

Vision

The future of all cities relies on good leaders. Metropolis
St. Louis hopes to encourage and inspire a climate in the City
of St. Louis that will push it forward as an interesting, vibrant
and entertaining city. We want a thriving downtown core as
well as strong, safe neighborhoods. We want a City full of
opportunities for young people to make a difference, and to
one day be leaders.

History

In 1997 scores of young people, reared or educated in St. Louis, flee to Seattle or Chicago or Boulder. They might come back…some day perhaps. After all, St. Louis is "a nice place to raise a family."

A group of these young people that knew St. Louis had more to offer than just a “nice place to raise a family”. These people decided to do something about it. They wanted to show their friends that they didn’t have to leave St. Louis to have a metropolitan lifestyle. And so Metropolis was born.

Between 1995 and 2000, the largest percentage decreases by age group in the St. Louis area are projected to be in those aged 25-34 (13.7% decline),a decline that exceeds the national average by nearly 60%. Source: Woods & Poole Economics, Washington D.C.
